I tried to move to Los Angeles, but my car died in Virginia. Worked fine for a year, no problems, I needed it for just 2900 more miles and it died. Such is my luck. I now await repairs or the purchase of a new vehicle.
I also worked for a year and a half at a call center taking emergency roadside assistance calls. All the fires of Mordor and Mustafar combined are not equal to the hell that is customer service in a call center.
I have discovered the sitcom Community, which is the greatest thing thus far invented by humanity. My love for Community is so deep that if the Titanic sunk in it, Robert Ballard would have failed to find the wreckage, for no submersible could survive at such depths. I also declare Breaking Bad to be my all-time favorite drama, but final confirmation may have to wait until the series concludes. Thus far, it seems probable.
That is sup. Also, I did a prank against Singapore, but it remains undiscovered.

Los Angeles.
I never want to go there. But I may resign myself to the fact I will end up there eventually. Or maybe I'll move to canada.
Sorry bout the car. Otherwise good to hear that you're (presumably) keeping well and you've (presumably) got some money saved up and are in the process of moving. NY didn't work out?
Also, holy vishnu, a year and a half at a call center? I've never stuck with a job I actually liked for that long.
Since graduating last spring, I've been doing random film-related gigs. Including but not limited to: *Videotaping 150 hours of Accounting lectures for web distribution...gah *Was a PA on a food network show episode. *Oh, and I was an extra in 3 movies and a Japanese TV show. In fact most of the money I made last year was from being a movie extra. Huh. Maybe I should stop fighting it and just become an actor.
Still haven't gotten a car. Need to get one. And a camera. And a new computer. And a place to live.
Community is very excellent, it's a shame it's not more widely viewed. I find Modern Family to be an almost equally hilarious show. I remember watching Ty Burrell play an insufferable asshole in Dawn of the Dead and thinking that he would go places.

I did not wind up with a lot of film-work related luck. In October 2008 I had a PA job for a season of Celebrity Apprentice, which was fun, and in May or June 2009 I worked as a PA for an episode of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. This was cool, as I got to assist the art dept "makeover" the restaurant overnight. Then, the next morning, it turned out the owners wanted a carpet we had thrown out, so me and other PA's had to climb into a gigantic dumpster and dig around for it. It was very archaeological. Also I saw Gordon Ramsay. Shortly after this I was running out of money, so decided to find a "real" job temporarily, thus I worked at a call-center for AAA. At first I said "I'll do this for like 6 months," and then I was like "Okay, one year," and then suddenly it was a year and a half, so I quit before the cycle became permanent. But I do have a decent amount of money for LA. I had a room waiting for me in North Hollywood and everything, but the fool car died. Now I have a "new" car, a styling 1999 Mercury Sable, so sometime this month I will make a second attempt.
During this time the only cool thing I did was to take sketch comedy courses at the Upright Citizens Brigade in NYC. It is my intention to continue this at their LA theatre and try to get onto one of their sketch writing teams.
Is being an extra anything like the Ricky Gervais sitcom Extras? Do you meet celebrities and get into antics and misunderstandings?
I agree with you that Modern Family is also a good sitcom. I declare, however, that Parks and Rec is my 2nd favorite sitcom. In fact I do declare that Parks and Rec is as good as The Office used to be. I do not know why they are continuing The Office without Steve Carrell.
Anyway, good luck with your film quests!!!

One thing that's been drilled into my head over all these years is that if you're trying to break into the industry, DON'T TAKE ANY JOBS OUTSIDE OF IT. Last year I was hurting for cash and passed on a 3 day gig with the Mythbusters to temp for a month at a university bookstore. Regrettable decision.
Extras was one of my favorite shows, but it doesn't capture the tedium of sitting on sets for hours on end, but we extras make our own fun - there's always great people to meet. At least you can goof off and mock the prima donna "serious actors". Also, unlike me, the protagonist is an actor trying to score a speaking role. I on the other hand try to schmooze with the crew to score jobs behind the camera. Just a PA job would be great.
I tried watching Parks & Recreation. It didn't take.
